Features

(Note: This information is subject to change as technical details are hashed out.)

Here are the specific DVD geek technical details on what we have planned for Volume 2:

Length
The DVD will be at least 2 hours long. We are striving for a total playtime of three hours (including special features).
Format
The DVD will be a DVD-9 (single-sided, dual-layer).
Video standard
Since the source material is PAL, two versions will be produced: A native PAL version, and an NTSC version for non-European countries.
Audio languages
There will be three selectable audio languages:
  1. Original soundtrack from Amiga (2.0 channel - default)
  2. Remastered surround-sound track (5.1 channel)
  3. Author/expert commentary (2.0 channel)
All tracks will be Dolby Digital AC-3 encoded.
Subtitles
The commentary track will include subtitles (English).
Region encoding
The disc will not be region-encoded, nor contain region-checking. You should be able to play it in any player in the world.
Encryption
The video on the disc will not be encrypted or copy-protected.

Additional Notes

We are striving for 100% author commentary for all demos included on Volume 2. Since we are primarily PC sceners, we feel we are unqualified to comment on Amiga demos, so any demos without commentary may be commented on an Amiga scener "guest speaker" if the original author(s) don't come through. For all commentary, we are considering adding English subtitles for those who have trouble understanding spoken English.

We are experimenting with two new playback features. First, the ability to play the demos in a random sequence. Second, the ability to choose the sequence of playback (often called "jukebox" mode). Various software and hardware players have produced mixed results, but we are confident that we can get these features working on a majority of players.

Blue 7 Media, under the art and skill of Jeremy Williams, is currently planning another demoscene-related featurette.
