Who's behind this thing?

The principal players are:

  1. Dan Wright (Pallbearer / Toxic Zombies and Hornet, creator of the legendary Hornet Archive, and head of Fusecon)
  2. Jim Leonard (Trixter / Hornet, founder of MobyGames)
  3. Andy Voss (Phoenix / Hornet, creator of Demodulate)
  4. Pim van Mun (Stony / Hornet, contributing artist for most Hornet and Fusecon productions since 1992)
  5. Jeremy Williams (head of Blue 7 Media)

Fun fact: The principal players share nearly 70 combined years of demoscene history and involvement. We may not have been involved in your specific scene, but believe us, we were there.

Supporting players include Pascal Pochol and Christopher G. Mann (Snowman / Hornet, curator of the legendary Hornet Archive) for advice and support, and of course all of the people who contributed their time and talent to Volume 1.

The project started out as an informal idea I (Trixter) had in March of 2000 to distribute videos of older, hard-to-run demos on VideoCD. I had done several little clips of demos and honed my capture processes for 4 years since then, but this was going to be an actual product I was going to do informally for $5 or something. I had a few demoscene-product questions for Dan Wright, seeing as he's quite the demoscene-product publishing zen master, and he practically screamed at me that DVD was the only way to go. $1200 and a few tests later, I agreed with him. (For one thing, VideoCD is limited to 30 frames per second, which automatically makes it unusable for portraying the full impact of full-framerate demos.) I contacted all of ex-Hornet around August of 2000 and asked for their interest, suggestions, etc., and the project was born.

Nearly 30 months after that first email in 2000, MindCandy Volume 1: PC Demos finally arrived in people's hands. Thankfully it was successful enough that we regained the capital we'd spent on production and replication, and had enough left over as seed capital for future volumes. We are currently working on MindCandy Volume 2: Amiga Demos.
